The mission statement has nothing to do with arts and culture. This appears to be a worthy project in a depressed area. However...see all of my previous comments about support from local communities

Although this seems to be a wonderful initiative, I am concerned that this project may not be used over 85% of the time as a cultural facility. In looking at the brochures and attachments, it seems that this project focuses more on athletics and recreation. It is great to see that seniors and children are the focus of this project. |

This grant is well written if a little sketchy on Arts Education details. I have an idea of what you want to do with the Arts in this building but it is not fully fleshed out. This grant can only be successful if an Arts Administrator is fully employed in the programming. Cultural programming just does not happen, it takes a professional involved from the beginning. My worry is Recreation will overshadow the Arts. Riviera Beach has a major opportunity to create a long lasting cultural impact which will only enhance your city. |

Project timeline could have been more detailed. This grant would have benefited from estimates of the impact. How many visitors will come if the project is complete? Measurable outcomes and goals are always encouraged. Would have liked to see support letters from the community. Where are the surveys or polls showing community support? This grant fits in with the stated goals of the grant program. Would have liked to hear any plans around accessibility. Would have liked to hear more about the programming planned and outreach to schools and other community organizations.

I really like the intent of this project and the fact that it is being built on surplus land for a transportation project in a community that otherwise has little space for arts and culture. What was the involvement of the surrounding community in determining a need for the new facility and its future use? Another example of hoping to see more diverse financial support in the cash match. There is a strong description of the geographical location of this neighborhood, but I would like to see more specific demographic information outside of the broad reference to 'low income'. We don't know this community like those who live in it and the proposal would be stronger if it contained this information. ASK at hearing for a description of the neighborhood. What is the % of programming that is arts and cultural focused? The ARE and STARS programs do not look primarily arts focused (though important programs to have). What is % of rental use? Architectural plans are strong. Support letters are a bit too 'form'...would have been better to see more individualized statements of support. |

Where do the "Cultural Arts Dance Program", Art in Me, and "Introduction to Music Instruments Program" take place now. [spelled "insruments" in your application] It appears arts EDUCATION is the sole cultural usage. What are the artistic qualifications of the staff that will handle the operations of the center? I don't see evidence that the majority of the usage of the building will be for arts and cultural purposes. |
