This is a great project with a well documented need. I must admit to some heartburn regarding the large amount of funds from the BP settlement which should have been awarded to the areas which bore the brunt of the oil spill. However, that was a political decision, and I cannot blame the Lowry Zoo for using those funds. Moreover, the funds are used for an environmental purpose. OK. I do wish you had done (or shown in your grant that you had done) private fundraising for this project.

The application made mention of the new staff member who would engage the underserved but did not specify how or the proposed partnerships. I would have liked to read more about this goal and how reaching the underserved would be implemented.

great grant!
Dickenson Katharine - Score: 87.000

does the zoo provide rental space to outside organizations

do you have an endowment? what size

I like the concentration on "Florida Waters" as a primary exhibit. Who can do it better than a Florida Zoo?

Expensive but necessary

Well written grant. Strong Community, Financial and Environmental Statements.

The support material was helpful to show timelines of the different phases with costs.

This grant fits in with the stated goals of the grant program.

Does completion date of 2020 fit within the grant's requirements? No completed construction docs but there was a signed letter of estimate costs.

Would have liked to hear any plans around accessibility.

Inspiring use of BP funds...to educate about and preserve the creatures of our Florida waterways. Also appreciate the use of capital reserve funds, but it would have been even stronger to see additional donors, corporate and individual, as part of this manor renovation project. Any reason why there are not more donors?

Would like an explanation of the $1.7million jump in personnel costs over a four year period and drop in outside fees and services.  Are these related?  Also in budget, private support is virtually flat or down over that period, as is local government support.

Another comment...for an organization that has such a beautiful diversity of animals and global narratives, there is little diversity expressed in the representations of staff, visitors, and donors in printed materials in supporting documents.

Strong support letters from all levels of government.  Would like to see support letter from user/visitor/partner.

Very much like the use of Florida  designers for this project and the increase in research opportunities once completed
