Hughes Catherine - Score: 90.000

Strengths of the application:

  • Relevance to the cultural heritage of audiences in Miami-Dade, and particularly in Little Havana
  • Wide-ranging programming that highlights the rich history of connections between music and dance in their historical contexts
  • Focus on casting from local performing arts and dance troupes and schools give Miami-Dade-based artists performance experience
  • A strong ROI for marketing strategies and a strong list of English- and Spanish-language outlets for advertising
  • A strong track record of diverse programs in previous seasons including demonstrated financial responsibility, with 2022 FY ending in a surplus

Points for Marti Production to clarify and address:

  • Can you explain more of your strategies to integrate education into your programming-- either during the performances or through complementary resources that might be accessible before, during, or after the performances?
  • If your performances are accessible for free through streaming services, what is the incentive for your audiences to attend ticketed events?
  • What, if any, plans does MP have for making any spoken or sung language accessible to as large an audience as possible (i.e. use of translations, supertitles, printed synoposes, etc.)?
  • The application mentions the possibility of encore performances-- how would an additional performance affect the budget?
  • How does the scope of the submitted 2023-24 season compare to the proposed programming during the grant season? Does the conservative increases in most budget line items between the two seasons match the scope of the two seasons' offerings?
  • What is/are the venue(s) for the proposed performances?
  • Do the proposed performances together form a single vision for the season, or a comprehensive idea for the season?
